How to work with a group effectively

We've all had to work with a group before. Sometimes, one of us ends up doing all the work or is really confused about the plan. Many of us haven't learned how to properly work with a group. I'm going to give you tips and advice on working with a group effectively so you can achieve success.

1. Communication

This is a very obvious tip but it's also the most neglected. Communication is extremely important when working with a group without good communication no one will understand what the goal is. Which leads to one person doing all the work. If no one is taking lead in getting people on task, be that person. In many group project situations people get nervous and awkward. Step out and make the situation comfortable.

2. Develop a Plan

A key ingredient for working with a group is setting up a plan. before you begin working on your project design a plan and tasks for each person. Get a piece of paper and ask what every person is willing to do. If no one wants to volunteer start asking if a specific person wants to do a certain task and be encouraging. By the end of this everyone should know what they are doing and how to accomplish it.

3. Stay Connected

If you are in school most of the time you get the project and then go separate ways. But this doesn't lead to success. Email your group members or create a group chat. This way if anyone has any questions they aren't struggling to communicate with someone.

4. Be Helpful & Ask for Help

If you don't understand a part of the project or goal ask a group member for help. You are now a part of a group so start acting like it. If another member is having complications be there for them. Offer your help and advice when asked.

Remember that you are now a part of a group and to do your best. Sometimes, a person in the group doesn't want to contribute, and you can't make them. But you can give 100% effort to help the group succeed by doing your part and making sure the others understand. You got this!
