How to Handle Anxiety & Stress Caused by School

We've all faced the overwhelming side of school. But the question is, How do we handle the stress caused by school? There are practical tips to help you manage your stress and anxiety. First, if you are struggling with your mental health please tell someone you trust.

1. Take Breaks

Sometimes the easiest but most effective thing you can do is step away from your work and go for a walk. Take time for yourself, you are important. And I will say this over and over again, Try not to spend your whole break on your phone. There are so many other activities to do. Examples:

Walks, coffee, reading, talking with someone, eating a snack, bike rides, playing with your pets, etc.

2. Find a hobby

Yes, a hobby. Even though it may not seem like it doing something you enjoy and relaxes you can make a world of difference. Rather it's photography, trying new coffee recipes, or knitting. Whatever it is find something that you can work on that isn't homework.

3. Get enough sleep

School is tiring and your stress does not benefit from exhaustion. Research shows that not getting enough sleep can affect your memory and reasoning abilities. So the more sleep. The more clear-headed you'll be. And the less anxious you'll be.

4. Exercise

I know you probably don't like to exercise. But, trust me when I say that it will help you. Exercise releases tension, so exercise can release the tension the morning before the test or presentation.

5. Manage your time

Check out my blog post on time management, click. But here is one of the tips: Set Goals, "Every day set your goals of how long you want to spend on your work. For example, let's say you want to only spend 1 hour writing your essay. You would keep track of the time you spend writing. by doing this you won't spend less or more time."

6. Study

If you procrastinate you will just feel more anxious. So, take the time to learn and study efficiently. Remember to look at your time studying not as a punishment but as an opportunity. Changing your internal dialogue can make a huge difference.

Always remember to ask for help. If you are struggling with anxiety please tell someone and know that you aren't alone. I struggle with anxiety and I know that some days are hard while others are easier. Remember that anxiety affects everyone differently. You are loved, and God brings ultimate peace.
